The OSSE GED Testing Center will celebrate GED Commencement on the morning of Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the University of the District of Columbia Auditorium. The theme for this year’s Cap and Gown Ceremony is “From Many Paths, One Purpose.” On this momentous occasion for participants, a dynamic and charismatic leader of our community will challenge all toward living out the theme.
The guest speaker, Reverend Dr. Lewis Anthony of Metropolitan Wesley Zion Church, will deliver a rousing message of hope and inspiration at GED commencement just as he graced the audience last year. Pastor Anthony serves as the senior pastor of Washington’s historic Metropolitan Wesley African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Founded in 1832, the Metropolitan Wesley AME Zion Church served as a station on the famed “Underground Railroad,” and was the birthplace of the first public school for Washington’s African-American children. Pastor Anthony received degrees from Columbia and Harvard Universities. He is a native of Washington, DC and a graduate of Anacostia Senior High School.
