nuclear energyPerhaps due to the publicity given to the supposed dangers of nuclear energy, people fail to appreciate its huge contribution in the control of air pollution. You may not be aware of it, but the continued use of traditional sources of energy, such as oil, coal, and natural gas, may be causing millions of premature deaths and the rapid destruction of the environment.

Deaths and Destruction to Ecosystem Prevented with Nuclear Energy

These millions of deaths and widespread devastation of the environment may be reduced, if not entirely eliminated, with the use of nuclear power. This finds support from a recent study published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

Researchers reported that the use of nuclear power instead of burning coal and other fossil fuels prevented around 1.84 million pollution-related mortalities and the release of 64 billion tons of greenhouse gases.

Vast Demand for Energy

All over the world, there is a high demand for sources of energy. You need energy to make your life comfortable at home.  Industries use these sources in enormous quantities to manufacture products.

And, of course, you need oil to keep your vehicle running. Just imagine the pollution that results from producing the energy you need. It brings havoc to the ecosystem and threatens everybody’s health.

Conversion to Nuclear Energy

According to the study, if cities utilized nuclear power instead of coal and other traditional sources, this may prevent 7 million deaths by the year 2050. This also means reducing harmful greenhouse gases, which cause global warming, by as much as 80 to 240 billion tons.

These findings support the advantages of using nuclear power. Despite the risks, with preventive measures such as proper nuclear waste disposal, countries can enjoy the benefits. Nuclear waste disposal companies such as Energy Solutions note, however, that public involvement plays an important part. Without ensuring the safety of everyone, energy conservation efforts fail.

Without energy sources, you lose the conveniences you enjoy. Here’s to proper nuclear waste management and utilization for a better future.
