Tips for Preparing for the GED Exam

• Make sure you know in advance the best way to get to the testing center on time on the day of the test.
• Get a good night's sleep before your test day.
• Plan to arrive at the testing site about 10 minutes early to allow for any last-minute changes or delays.
• Make sure you have the following essential items with you on test day:
–Application form or reminder postcard
–Current photo identification


During the GED Exam, you will NOT be able to keep the following items at your seat:
Purses, knapsacks, tote bags, pagers, cell phones, textbooks, notebooks, jackets, coats or hats and other nonessential items

Tips for Taking the GED Exam

• Follow the instructions given by the GED
Examiner.
• Read all directions and questions carefully
and completely to ensure that you understand
what you are expected to do to answer each
question.
• Pick the single best answer.
• Follow the test directions for filling in the
answer sheet. Mark only one answer space for each question. Multiple answers will be scored as incorrect.
• Answer every question. You will not be
penalized for wrong answers.


Unless otherwise noted, GED Exams are held at The Stable Building, 410 Eighth Street, NW, Room 604. Exact locations will be given to each applicant before the actual testing date. Exam dates are subject to change.

REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY minimally seven days prior to an examination date as listed in the "Calendar" section of this website.  Confirmation of a candidate's test day is determined by availability and can only be completed at the UDC-GED Testing Center located at 410 Eighth Street NW. Payment is expected at the time of registration in the form of a business check or  money order in the exact amount payable to the GED Testing Center/UDC. Fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.  Proof of eligibility and DC residency must be confirmed by the candidate's presentation of required documentation at the time of payment.  The confirmation of a seat for an examination can be issued only by GED Testing Center staff.
